(A Guide for Women Over 35 Starting a Business)
I didn’t really know what to post today, so I decided to see what new entrepreneurs or those looking to start a business need and are thinking. So I hurried to search about it and found a Reddit post.
Reddit, if you don't know, is an online platform where people share experiences, ask questions, and discuss real-life challenges. Its value lies in its honest, unfiltered advice, making it incredibly useful for aspiring business owners.
So I clicked on a post asking, “What do you need as a new business owner?” The answers were many, and what stood out was:
People to connect with, because starting a business can be lonely.
Finding people who want to talk about business.
How to start a business online.
How to find personnel or hire someone.
Ready-made website services.
Funding.
Effective marketing tools and advice.
Out of all of these, numbers 1 to 3 and number 7 are what I find most difficult as a woman over 35 starting a business. I am now an extrovert, however, socialising doesn’t easily fit into my daily routine beyond parenting activities. This makes it harder to meet like-minded women entrepreneurs. Building a business is a passion, a necessity, and a journey that can feel slow or even stagnant and in my opinion the toughest phase is finding clients and promoting your services.
That’s why, I found, joining online communities, especially on Facebook and Reddit, can be incredibly helpful and when it comes to social media marketing, investing in courses and downloadable resources will help you understand what works and what to avoid.
Final advice: If you’re a woman over 35 starting a business, stay consistent, keep learning, and don’t isolate yourself. Growth comes from connection, visibility, and persistence. Keep up the good work, and I am looking forward to sharing more with you soon.
